Mike Holder:   Photographer and Artist

A brief explination of what kind of art I actually do.  For many years I have used a camera to make my living.  I have litterly thousands of photographs that I have learned how to convert into a pattern.  By creating a pattern from a photograph, or for that matter any other piece of art, I can transfer that image to my piece of wood and begin woodburning.  Once the image is outlined I remove the pattern and begin putting in the detail.  That is when my image begins to come to life.  Once it is complete I add the color.  I use heat set dyes commonly used only to color gourds.  The dyes are only available from Welburn Gourd Farm in Fallbrook CA.  Anyone wanting to learn what I do need only contact me and I will follow up with more information. Otherwise watch the wood carving , scrollsaw, and  craft magazines for articles about how you too can create this kind of beautiful art.
